Foreign (Ferrous & Non-ferrous) Particle removal in Fuel Handling System

In the raw material i.e. solid fuels like coal, lignite, agro fuels, etc. contains foreign particles (it may be ferrous material or non-ferrous material).  The fuel handling systems internal to boiler house includes specialized designed Live Bottom Silo with reclaimers for non-free flowing fuels. It is necessary to remove foreign particles for following reasons:

·         If any of iron particle goes into the crusher it shall damage the crusher
·         It may block the nozzles in FBC type boilers

Removal of iron and collection of iron powder from various kinds of raw materials and semi-fi finished products are called magnetic separation.

A magnetic separator to select must be suitable for the purpose of use and have a sufficient capacity. Selection of the magnetic separator depends on following parameters:

·         Application (improving the grade, collecting useful magnetic substances, etc.)
·         Kind, composition and components of raw materials
·         Grain size of raw materials
·         Water content, raw material temperature
·         Apparent specific gravity (bulk density)
·         Kind, shape and grain size of mixed magnetic substances
·         Amount of raw materials to treat per hour (kg/h, m3/h)
·         Amount and ratio of mixed magnetic substances
·         Other special conditions

Few examples of magnetic separators are as follows:

·         Conveyor head pulley with magnetic pulley,
·         Suspension magnet
·         Hump Magnet
·         Suspended magnetic separator

While to remove of non-ferrous material metal detector has been used which has to be installed on conveyor after the installation of suspension magnet.
